ITINERARY TO ROME, ASSISI AND SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO
Day 1: Depart U.S.A. for Rome, Italy. Meals are served onboard transatlantic flight.
Day 2: Upon arrival in Rome, we will be greeted by our tour director and board our private bus. Before checking in to our hotel for 1 night, we will stop to visit St. John Lateran Church.
Day 3: This morning, we’ll depart for Vatican City. For Holy Father’s General Audience. After you will have free time for lunch, shopping and visit St. Peter’s Basilica. 5pm mass will be celebrated at the main altar of the basilica. After mass we return to our hotel.
Day 4: This morning, we depart Rome for San Giovanni Rotondo for 2night’s stay. On the way we’ll stop for a visit at Benedictine Abbey. Where St. Benedict and his siter St. Scholastic are buried in Montecasino.
Day 5: After breakfast we will visit Monte Sant’Angelo and the Grotto of St. Michael the Archangel that he consecrated himself in 490 A.D. Popes and saints have visited this site requesting St. Michael’s intercession. We will return to San Giovanni Rotondo and visit the shrine of Padre Pio where we will have Mass, visit his tomb and view his incorrupt body. We will also tour the sanctuary; see the old church and crucifix from which he received the stigmata in 1918. We will return to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: This morning, we depart San Giovanni Rotondo for Assisi for 3 night’s stay. On the way we’ll stop in Lanciano to view the Eucharistic Miracle that is the real flesh and blood of Jesus that has been there for 12 centuries unchanged. Here we will celebrate Holy Mass. Arrive in Assisi for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: This morning, we will visit the Basilica of St. Francis which contains many of the Saint’s possessions, his tomb and the tombs of some of his brothers. We will visit the church of San Rufino, where Francis and Clare were baptized and the Church of St. Clare to see her incorrupt body and the original San Damiano Cross that spoke to Francis. Some free time before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: This morning, we will visit Our Lady of the Angels Basilica and the small Porziuncola chapel where St. Francis died. Father will celebrate Holy Mass. After mass we’ll travel 1 hour 30 minutes to Orvieto. Where 1263 in Bolsena Italy a Eucharistic Miracle occurred when a consecrated Host began to bleed onto the Corporal cloth the host and chalice were resting on. The relic is preserved in the Orvieto Cathedral. Late afternoon return to the Hotel.
Day 9: This morning after breakfast, we’ll depart Assisi for Rome. On the way to our hotel, we’ll visit Basilicas of St. Mary Major. Father will celebrate Holly Mass. After we’ll drive to our hotel for check in and overnight.
Day 10: Depart Rome for Hometown, USA. Ciao! Ciao! Have a blessed trip home!
